Luxury cars to fill the RAF Museum

If you’re an auction house and need to show off a bunch of fancy cars, why not put them in a museum for a few days?

That’s what Silverstone Auctions will do for a few days next month so the RAF Museum’s huge hangers filled with military planes and helicopters will be joined by a load of expensive cars – for us to watch and others with deeper pockets to buy.

A few years ago Bonhams did something similar, and it’s usually a great way to see a luxury car show for free. The vehicles will be displayed in hangars 3 to 5 from Thursday March 3 to Sunday March 6 and visitors will be able to view them.

As with the rest of the RAF Museum, the exhibition is free, but you must book a advance ticket.

The nearest tube station is Colindale on the Northern line and the museum is about a 10 minute walk away.

The actual auction will take place at Hangar 6 on Saturday and Sunday. Hangar 6 will be closed to the public on these dates but you can register on their website to attend the auction, or visit the Thursday/Friday before.

This website has now been running for over a decade, and although ad revenue helps fund the website, it does not cover the costs. That’s why I created a structure with DonorBox where you can contribute to website costs and time invested in writing and researching news articles.

It’s very similar to how The Guardian and many smaller websites now seek to generate revenue in the face of rising costs and falling advertising.

Whether it’s a one-time donation or a regular donor, each additional support goes a long way toward covering the costs of running this website and keeping you regularly up to date with London news and happenings.
